Mac Pro use at Nh colleges?
The mac pro is apples newest high performance professional grade desktop, it offers top notch reliability and reasonable pricing for the workload assuming you can take advantage of it in a professional environment. To the average consumer, the maxed price of over 50k seems unbelievable but the intent of something like this is for production studios like Disney or Pixar. Parts of the newest Jumanji movie were actually rendered on a 2019 Mac Pro and it was far from a top spec model which goes to show how much power there really is to take advantage of if you know how.
I think some of these computers could be beneficial to colleges in order to help students who might be going into the film industry better work with something they would see in the field. Sure you can run the same software like Apples Final Cut Pro x, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Avid, DaVinci Resolve, and others on much lower end computers and some laptops, the issue is that a lot of the more intensive workloads just can’t be run smoothly on anything other than a powerful desktop. This is where the film classes or movie production classes at colleges could take advantage of something like this which is similar to what you will find on the job if you pursue a professional film application.
A large reason for professional video editors to have computers like this is the rock solid reliability, with a multi trillion dollar company standing behind it and the ability to have technicians on site within hours of an issue coming up its little lost time and you can get back to work because time is money.
In conclusion, I think it would be a good idea for film schools or any school with professional film classes to pick up a few of these just to better prepare the students for the real job where this is stuff they will use.
I think a problem is that film students might not have the money for the computer, with most college students barley getting by. Colleges themselves might not wanna shell out for a bunch of them just to be out dated in a couple of years.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that this kind of technology might be being used more right now to edit movies during covid since Hollywood isn't fully back up and running?
